The Chignik Regional Aquaculture Association (CRAA) is concerned that Black Lake, located on the south side of the Alaska Peninsula, is naturally degrading as a juvenile sockeye salmon nursery habitat. CRAA considers the low-water storage capacity in the Black Lake system to be a major threat to Chignik sockeye salmon production. The report criticizes the Alaska Division of Public Health (ADPH) investigation, conclusions, and recommendations published in ACAT calls for more environmental and human testing, restricting areas for subsistence food gathering, and increasing efforts to control pollution sources and environmental contamination.

After 84 days out of commission, the Green Lake Dam is up and running again. The dam works in tandem with the Blue Lake Dam to provide hydropower to Sitka. Even for Wrangell St. Elias National Park, this is a challenging Alaska backpacking route. It begins at a seldom used airstrip in a beautiful, broad valley near a small gem of a lake. There is some rugged, rugged terrain on the trip including a huge boulder field that stretches all the way across the first valley.
